Richard Anthony was born on a Marine Base in Cherry Point, North Carolina. Growing up, the family wasn’t rich or poor -- they were solidly middle class. His father worked as an electrical engineer and later taught engineering at the community college and his mother stayed home and raised the kids. Richard’s parents raised him with strong values focused on commitment to family, investing in community and helping those who are less fortunate.
As a result, Richard has spent most of his life actively engaged in his community and finding ways to serve the public. After graduating from Bowling Green State University, Richard served in the Army Reserves for six years.
In 1996 Richard was hired as the Chief Operation Officer of NETWORK consortium, an organization dedicated to workforce development and helping people get back to work. Whether it was working employment agencies, workforce investment boards, community college professionals or other state and local agencies, Richard’s dedication to creating a strong, vibrant community was at the core of his work.
Richard was appointed as President and CEO of NETWORK Consortium by its Board of Directors. During his tenure, Richard helped it grow into a successful organization with a multi-million dollar budget. He feels fortunate to have helped build an organization that at its core was designed to help those people who needed it most.
From 2003 to 2005 Richard served as Chief Operation Officer with NAF, an organization focused on keeping abortion safe, legal and rare. Richard supports a woman’s right to make private medical decisions in consultation with her doctor. His work with NAF -- like much of the work in his life—was dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those in his community.
Today, Richard works as workforce development consultant and is still passionate about helping those who are in need. He is dedicated to his family, his community and to the Democratic Party. He has served as President of his Home Owners Association, Vice President of the PTO for his children’s school, coach for his son’s countless CYA Soccer and Baseball teams, and as a frequent volunteer for the National Kidney Foundation. He also serves on the Sully District Area Plan Review Task Force.
He is dedicated activist in local Democratic politics. Whether it’s making phone calls or knocking, Richard is proud to have supported Barack Obama, Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, Jim Webb, and many, many State Delegates, State Senators, Board of Supervisors, and School Board members.
Richard Anthony and his wife, Michele, live in Fair Oaks and have been residents of Fairfax County since 1995. They have two children, Katie and Max, ages 11 and 9.
